Numerous studies have shown that formaldehyde is genotoxic and mutagenic to mammalian cells. It can induce a broad spectrum of genetic effects, such as DNA cleavage and DNA-protein crosslink. In addition, endogenous formaldehyde, generated from biochemical pathways, is a kind of normal intermediary metabolites in biological systems. Studies of animals and humans have shown that formaldehyde undergoes rapid biotransformation immediately after absorption to formate, which is partially incorporated via normal metabolic pathways into the one-carbon pool of the body, or further oxidized to carbon dioxide. Therefore, no increase in its concentration in tissue or blood can be detected even moments after exposure to formaldehyde. To investigate the direct effect of formaldehyde on the proliferation of cells, formaldehyde was applied with various doses (0-80 μmol/ml) into&nbs
