Reviews on Present and Potential Applications of Thermoelectric Refrigeration

This paper reviews the progress of thermoelectric cooling application in the past 40 years, especially the recent advance in the past 10 years. It is still difficult to popularize large scale thermoelectric cooling as building air conditioner, while small and micro thermoelectric cooling are extending their application in more and more fields. Thermoelectric cooling possesses distinct advantages in partly or wholly cooling electronic devices in comparison with other refrigeration modes. It is anticipated that super-lattice thermoelectric materials presents great potential in increasing figure of merit, and that integrated thermoelectric micro-cooler is a promising form to cool electronic devices.
