The words “Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design” (LEED) are popping up on building projects like weeds on a roof garden. The idea of green buildings has never been more popular. From personal experience and observations, it now seems that parties, at many different levels, are recognizing LEED as the common sense way to approach building design—something good for us, our children and our grandchildren. By 2015 the World Bank predicts the half of the world’s new building construction will take place in China. Recently many developments, including both private and public, have sought to pursue sustainable buildings, due to China entry into WTO. With businesses seeking to make LEED part of their corporate philosophies, developers and owners, looking for effective marketing strategies, are turning to LEED to increase sales and pump up rents. Studies show that sustainable workplace design can improve Indoor Environment Quality (IEQ), boost worker health and productivity.
