VOCs Investigation in Residential Environment in China

This study made an investigation of VOCs, including benzene, toluene and formaldehyde, in the residential environment in five cities (Harbin, Beijing, Changsha, Shanghai and Shenzhen) in China. Field measurement in the three classrooms was conducted from July. 2003 to Aug. 2004. Parameters were monitored indoors and outdoors simultaneously, meanwhile some questionnaires were also taken. According to the survey results, the average benzene concentrations in five cities were found to be complied with the China Standard. While the average concentration of toluene in Beijing was 0.941mg/m3 which was more than four times of national action level and the over-limit rate in Harbin reached 81%.
