United Technologies Receives Green Building Award, Reaffirms Supp
BEIJING, China, April 1, 2013 – United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), a leading provider of high technology products and services to the aerospace and building systems industries, became the first corporation to receive the Urban Studies - Green Building Practices Award presented by the Chinese Society for Urban Studies (CSUS).
The award was presented at a special ceremony today during the International Conference on Green and Energy-efficient Buildings (IGEBC), the largest green building event in China. The award recognizes United Technologies’ outstanding contributions to green building innovation and development in the country.
“United Technologies is honored to receive the Urban Studies - Green Building Practices Award for its contributions to China’s urbanization. Our history in China dates back more than a century with the Otis Elevator Company, and today with the Carrier brand, we are one of the largest suppliers to the building industry,” said Ross Shuster, president, UTC Climate, Controls & Security – Asia, a United Technologies business..
“Together with leaders at this international conference, we are making progress toward a more energy-efficient future for China, and the world. Today, it is no longer a question if major development will be green – it’s only a discussion of how green.”
Now in its ninth year, IGEBC attracts senior delegates from government agencies, private businesses and academic institution seeking information on green building trends and solutions. Since the conference’s inception, United Technologies has served as a top sponsor of the event, which this year also featured a keynote address by Mr. Shuster.
In his remarks, Mr. Shuster shared results from the 2012 World Green Building Trends Study conducted by McGraw-Hill Construction, a global research organization, that explored building trends in 62 countries worldwide. According to the study, a third of the respondents said more than 60 percent of their design portfolio in 2012 is associated with green building activity, providing solid evidence of just how widespread green building practices have become.
“New data on green buildings suggests we’ve reached an important inflection point,” Mr. Shuster said. “We are changing the world, building by building. The leaders in this room are contributing to this transformation. You are creating our greener future in China – and United Technologies is proud to be your partner.”

Otis is also the first elevator maker in China to launch a premier product, Gen2 Core for China’s social housing market.
“Making more efficient use of energy, water and vertical space is essential to sustainable urban growth,” Mr. Shuster said. “Delivering these efficiencies while also promoting the comfort and safety of building users to ensure a substantial cost benefit for building owners is the promise of the green building movement.”
