内容:A comment is made on the works that should be done in a recent consultancy project on reviewing the ventilation requirements for local buildings initiated by the Building Department (BD), Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). It is suggested that indoor air flow should be studied carefully for developing codes related to ventilation requirements for buildings. Local air speeds, turbulence, and their effects on thermal comfort are the key factors in determining criteria for providing better ventilation. Correlation relations among the key macroscopic design parameters and thermal comfort indices should be derived. Also, it is worthwhile to consider the application of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) as this technique is more feasible and relatively cheaper than other methods. The use of CFD to study natural ventilation in a small flat is illustrated. Further, research activities on indoor air flow at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University(PolyU) are briefly reviewed. It is pointed out that local higher education institutions such as the PolyU would be in a very good position to help BD on working out appropriate codes on ventilation requirements in buildings. Results form this study will be useful not only to HKSAR, but to other subtropical countries as well
标题:Application Of CFD Tools For Indoor And Outdoor Environment Design
关键字:
内容:Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has become a useful tool for the study of indoor and outdoor environment problems. Recently, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT) has developed several Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS) equation models and Large Eddy Simulation(LES) models to enhance the capabilities of CFD for use in indoor and outdoor environment design. The new models have been successfully used to assess building shape design, to evaluate the effectiveness of natural ventilation in buildings, to model Volatile-Organic-Compound(VOC) emission from building materials, and to calculation indoor environment parameters.

标题:Smoke Management And Egress Analysis of The CKS Airport Extension II Project
关键字:
内容:In this study, smoke management and egress analysis of a new airport was simulated, followed by full-scale experiments. The experimental work validated the analysis successfully which warranted the effectiveness of the emergency procedure of this airport.
标题:A Multi-lamp Heliodon for Architectural Schools
关键字:
内容:Heliodons have been developed to simulate sunlight direction in relation to a building model. For placing the building model, heliodons can be divided into two categories. In one category, the model is to be titled, and normally also rotated. In the other category, the model is to be placed horizontally, and normally also stationary. The later category of heliodons, with a horizontally placed building model, and with the simulated sunlight moving around it, will certainly help architectural students visualise the change of sunlight direction around a building and the related effect on insolation and shading.Furthermore, in both categories, there are heliondons developed to examine annual insolation/shading on massing models by putting red, green, blue lamps(i.e. dichromatic lamps) respectively at positions for June, September/March, December, thus improving the capability of the heliodons. In the pursuit of a heliodon capable of demonstrating solar movement , offering the speed of operation as demanded by architectural schools, and occupying a space generally affordable, and primarily suitable for use to test buildings of the climatic region of south China where Hong Kong is located, a muli-lamp heliodon has been developed. This paper reports on this multi-lamp heliodon, which consists of 69 fixed quartz lamps, and 6 dichromatic lamps. It also has the capability of investigating the building model with dichromatic lamps,. without the demand of additional space which is always a concern now in architectural schools.
