DISCUSSION ON PMV-PPD INDICES, ASHRAE COMFORT STANDARD AND PRESENT HEATING DESIGN NORM

Indoor thermal environment in cold area building house has been calculated in computer according as thermal comfort equation of P.O.Fanger and PMV-PPD indices of forecasting indoor thermal environment and thermal comfort in this paper. The results show that air temperature for thermal comfort is 21~24℃. Air temperature for thermal comfort is 20~23.6℃ in ASHRAE55-1992 comfort standard. But “the heating indoor calculating temperature” is 16~20℃ which is set in present heating design norm. However, which parameter is right? The authors think that using “heating indoor calculating temperature” can save energy 20~40% more than using thermal comfort temperature. But PPD index is raised from 5.15% to 45.87%. That’s to say the energy saving is on the base of a decrease in standard of thermal comfort. And present heating design norm is put in practice in 1988. It may be not suitable to Chinese people now. PMV index of forecasting indoor thermal environment, thermal comfort and ASHRAE comfort standard are based on the experimental results to the youth in America and Europe. And they may be not applicable to Chinese. We should research ourselves’ thermal comfort standard, which is suitable to residents in cold area. This will help for correcting and setting present heating design norm.
